COST OF LIVING IN FRANCE

These are just a few of the costs of things in the country. Again, the actual amount of money that you will pay will vary according to the location that you are in.

Student Hall of residence: 150 to 600 Euros per month

Rent/ share an apartment: 400 to 700 Euros per month

Engineering degrees around 620 EUR per academic year.
Medicine studies = 450 EUR per year.
Master are around 260 EUR/year and for a PhD 396 EUR/year; you should expect higher fees for certain specialised degrees.

Aside from tuition fees, you will also need to pay a contribution to campus and student life of 90 EUR

2. Living costs in France

Paris: between 1,200 and 1,800 EUR/month (sometimes including the accommodation, if you choose to live in a student hall of residence);

Nice: between 900 and 1,400 EUR/month;
Lyon, Nantes, Bordeaux or Toulouse: between and 800 – 1.000 EUR;
For the rest of France, you can manage with smaller amounts (at least 650 EUR)

Transportation

A monthly pass for the bus, metro or tram is usually somewhere around 30 EUR;

You can also use the TGV to visit other cities in France, for around 30 EUR a trip.

Healthcare mutual insurance costs 20 – 50 EUR/month, depending on the chosen cover. If you start studying in France in 2018-2019 you can get reimbursed for your health spending by registering.

Books or other learning materials average at 50 EUR/month;

If you purchase an international youth travel card, you can get major discounts to visit sights around France

There are a number of discounts for students. If you can show valid student ID, you will often pay less for tickets to the theatre, museums, opera houses, cinemas and other cultural institutions. If you are more the sporty type, you should take a look at the sports programmes at your higher education institution: with a few exceptions, they are free for students.

Medication and insurance
The French state gives medical insurance through social security system. Therefore, if a student falls sick, he or she is sure to get good treatment, and a reimbursement of up to 70 per cent of the medical expenditure is borne by the French state. However, it is advisable to get a three-month medical insurance from India as it is a mandatory visa requirement. After the three-month period, the student is covered by the French social security system.

Living and eating
Depending on the city, the cost of living varies from 500 to 600 euros per month. Those with a student visa can work up to 20 hours a week. As salaries are good, they can earn around 600 euros a week. In fact, many Indian students cook their own meals. And on days when you wished to take a break from cooking, then there are plenty of French bakeries.
